Bio
Jimena Bermejo is a multidisciplinary artist, immigrant, mother, and educator from Mexico City whose practice oscillates between dance and performance art. Her performances range from abstract and sculptural to visceral and provocative. Education is a significant and beloved part of her work, and her collaborative projects often facilitate movement experiences for people with little to no prior training.
Jimena has performed nationally and internationally, including at The Cathedral Arts Festival in Belfast, Le Lieu in Quebec, The Judson Church in NYC, Teatro Dallas 19th International Festival in Dallas, Montserrat College of Art Gallery, Distillery Gallery in South Boston, and 808 Gallery in Boston. She is the founder and curator of the Boston-based series 1 Minute Solos (ongoing since 2016) and created The Poetics of Aging (2021) in collaboration with freeskewl. Her work has been supported by a 2021 Live Arts Boston Grant, including a project with La Trinchera Dance (Puerto Rico) and Boston-based collaborators. Her practice is rooted in collaboration across disciplines, frequently working with musicians, sound, and visual artists.
Jimena is faculty at Berklee College of Music and The College of the Holy Cross, where she serves as Director of the Dance Program and she is a member of Mobius Artist Group, an experimental art group founded in 1971.
Bermejo holds a B.F.A. in Dance from The Boston Conservatory and an M.F.A. in Studio for Interrelated Media from Massachusetts College of Art and Design and she is a 200-hour certified yoga teacher (O2 Yoga, 2021).
